8 Weeks Old

I can't believe Caydence is 8 weeks old today. Time sure does fly. There hasn't been much to write about as of late. Next week will be her big week. Wednesday will be her first visit with the occupational therapist from Birth to Three and Thursday we meet with her cardiologist and she'll have another echocardiogram. Hopefully he can give us a better idea as to when her surgery will be.

Right now Caydence has her days and nights mixed up. She usually wakes up around 6 or 7 pm and is awake all night. Right now it's 4am and she's still wide awake. Hopefully we can get her switched around some how. I feel bad because when friends and family visit, she's always sleeping. They never get to see her big beautiful eyes.

A couple months ago I came across an article written by Melissa Riggio; a girl who has down syndrome. It is a beautiful article and very inspirational. Please click here to read it.

Unfortunately, tonight I came across another article about her and found out that Melissa passed away last year at the age of 20 from leukemia. She was the daughter of Barnes & Noble CEO, Steve Riggio. This article outlines how Steve was inspired by his daughter to create special section of books about children with special needs. He realized after his daughter’s birth that books about children with disabilities were scarce and often difficult to locate. Today, Barnes & Noble offers more than 3,400 items in the company’s “Children with Special Needs” collection.

God bless Melissa!

On a lighter note, 8 weeks old already! Yayy Caydence! I don't mind that she's sleeping alot when I see her...she's beautiful to look at no matter. :)

Just found your blog through FB. What a beautiful baby Caydence is! Congratulations! I hope the cardiologist gives you a better time line. I know that the waiting is the worst part of it.

I look forward to following your blog and seeing Caydence grow (and sleep)!

I hope your visit to the heart doctor goes well--I'm surprised they said to wait until 6 months b/c usually I've heard that the AVSD repair is done at 2-4 months...are they waiting b/c of her size? She is such a little doll--here's hoping she'll sleep for you at night soon...sleep deprivation is the worst!

Stef - She is having her echo at St. Mary's new Outpatient Center.

Beth - Thank you, Welcome to Caydee's blog! I'm glad you found it.

Carrie - We are surprised too. Everyone we've met online has had their child's surgery within the first 5 months and our doctor keeps saying 6 mos to a year! We'll see what he says next week...

I love to see Caydee's pictures. She is sooo cute!
I enjoyed reading Melissa's article. What an incredible young woman. Even though she lived a short time, she sure did have an impact on the world.

Hi Jenny and Josh, I just found your blog and have been reading your stories. It's so amazing to reflect on the two of you as high school sweeties and to see how much your love has grown. Caydee has the best parents! Along with taking care of her, I hope you are continuing to take care of yourselves and each other. If I can be of any help, please let me know. I will pass this info on to Jessika. What a great way to keep a lot of people updated. I look forward to meeting Caydence when the time comes. My love to all three of you, Monica
